The following basic concepts are used in this Law:

1) juror is a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan who has been called upon to participate in the consideration of a criminal case by a court in accordance with the procedure established by law and has taken the oath;

2) a candidate for juror is a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan included in the unified list of candidates for jurors for subsequent participation in the jury selection procedure in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.;

3) excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/14/2022 No. 141-VII (effective from 07/01/2023). 4) excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/14/2022 No. 141-VII (effective from 07/01/2023).

5) the unified list of candidates for jurors is a list of candidates for jurors from a region (city of republican significance, capital) containing the number of citizens determined by the chairman of the relevant regional and equivalent court.;

6) excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/14/2022 No. 141-VII (effective from 07/01/2023). 7) excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 07/14/2022 No. 141-VII (effective from 07/01/2023).

8) random sampling - the selection of citizens from a single list of candidates for jurors using technologies that ensure the randomness of such selection.;

9) the number of citizens necessary to ensure the normal operation of the regional and equivalent courts is the projected number of citizens, established on the basis of the average annual number of cases to be considered by the courts with the participation of jurors.

This Law regulates public relations related to the participation of jurors in criminal proceedings, defines the legal status, guarantees of independence, legal, economic and organizational bases for ensuring the activities of jurors.
