Article 1. The basic concepts used in this Law of the Law on Peacekeeping Activities of the Republic of Kazakhstan
The following basic concepts are used in this Law:
1) civilian personnel – citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan who are employees, employees of state bodies (organizations) of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
2) partner States – states participating in a peacekeeping operation jointly with the Republic of Kazakhstan;
3) military personnel – military personnel of the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
4) a peace enforcement operation is a type of peacekeeping operation involving joint international enforcement actions in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations (hereinafter referred to as the UN).;
5) a peace and security maintenance operation (mission) (hereinafter referred to as a peacekeeping operation) is a set of interrelated and coordinated actions by military and civilian personnel in accordance with the UN Charter to stabilize the situation in zones (areas) of potential or existing armed conflicts, carried out in accordance with with a mandate to conduct peacekeeping operations and aimed at creating conditions conducive to conflict resolution and maintaining or restoring peace and security;
6) preparation for a peacekeeping operation (hereinafter referred to as peacekeeping training) – a set of measures including conducting exercises on the territory and outside the Republic of Kazakhstan, conducting negotiations, reconnaissance, planning, training of the national contingent, including with the participation of the armed forces of partner states, logistical and financial support, transportation of goods and national establishment of an operational headquarters;
7) the mandate for conducting a peacekeeping operation (hereinafter referred to as the mandate) is a legal document adopted by an international organization in accordance with the UN Charter and regulating the conduct of a peacekeeping operation.;
8) peacekeeping activities of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as peacekeeping activities) – a set of measures, including means and methods consistent with the goals and objectives of the UN Charter, using military and (or) civilian personnel, aimed at preventing, containing and ending armed conflicts between states or within a state through the intervention of a third party and contributing to the maintenance of peace and security, provision of humanitarian assistance in accordance with the international obligations assumed by the Republic of Kazakhstan;
9) the national contingent of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the national contingent) is the military and (or) civilian personnel of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This Law regulates public relations related to the participation of the national contingent of the Republic of Kazakhstan in peace and security operations (missions) in accordance with international obligations assumed by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
