Types of probation include:

1) pre–trial probation - activities and a set of measures for the preparation of a pre-trial report;

2) sentencing probation is an activity and a set of measures to establish and implement probation control over persons sentenced to restriction of liberty, as well as those sentenced to probation, and to provide them with social and legal assistance.;

3) penitentiary probation is an activity and a set of measures for the re–socialization of persons serving sentences of imprisonment in institutions of the penal enforcement (penitentiary) system.;

4) post–penitentiary probation is an activity and a set of measures to establish and implement probation control over persons released from institutions of the penal (penitentiary) system, and to provide them with social and legal assistance.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 30, 2016 No. 38-VI SAM.

This Law regulates public relations in the field of the organization and functioning of probation and establishes the concept, purpose, objectives, principles, types and forms of probation, as well as the legal status of persons in respect of whom probation is applied and the subjects who carry it out.
