1. A state nature reserve is a specially protected natural area with the status of an environmental and scientific institution, the purpose of which is to preserve and study on its territory the natural course of natural processes and phenomena, objects of flora and fauna, individual species and communities of plants and animals, typical and unique ecological systems and their restoration.

2. The main activities of the state nature reserves include:

1) ensuring the regime of protection and restoration of biological diversity of the state nature reserve and its protected area;

2) organization and conduct of scientific research on the study and monitoring of ecological systems, objects of the state nature reserve fund, including the maintenance of the Chronicle of Nature;

3) conducting environmental education activities;

4) participation in the state environmental expertise of projects and schemes for the placement of economic and other facilities that may have a harmful effect on the ecological systems of the state nature reserve;

5) regulation of the use of the territory of the state nature reserve and its protected area for ecological, educational, scientific and limited tourist purposes.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 7, 2006 No. 175.

This Law regulates public relations on the creation, expansion, protection, restoration, sustainable use and management of specially protected natural territories and objects of the state nature reserve fund, representing special ecological, scientific, historical, cultural and recreational value, as well as being a component of the national, regional and global ecological network.
