Hand-held small arms and cold steel weapons include weapons designed to solve combat, operational, service and training tasks, adopted by the relevant state bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and their units (hereinafter referred to as the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations, special state and law enforcement agencies), as well as manufactured for supply to other states..

Hand-held small arms and ammunition for them are one of the types of weapons.

The procedure for the turnover of military handguns and ammunition for them, as well as cold weapons, is determined by the rules for the turnover of weapons and military equipment approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 30, 1998 No. 339.

This Law regulates legal relations arising from the turnover of civilian, service, military handguns and cold steel weapons in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and is aimed at protecting the life and health of citizens, property, ensuring public safety, protecting environmental facilities, resources, and developing international cooperation in combating crime and illegal proliferation of weapons.

The provisions of this Law also apply to the circulation of ammunition (cartridges).
