Article 5. Civilian weapons of the Law on State Control over the Circulation of Certain Types of Weapons
Civilian weapons include weapons used by citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan for collecting, exhibiting, self-defense, sports, hunting, as well as educational and cultural organizations for educational and cultural purposes. Civilian firearms should exclude firing in bursts (with the exception of naked weapons).
Civilian weapons are divided into:
1) self-defense weapons:
smoothbore long-barrelled firearms;
gas weapons – gas pistols, revolvers and cartridges for them, mechanical sprayers, aerosol cans and other devices equipped with tear or irritating substances authorized for use by an authorized body in the field of healthcare;
electric weapon – weapons and other objects, the damaging effect of which is based on the use of electric energy, authorized for use by the authorized body in the field of healthcare;
2) sports weapons:
firearms with a rifled barrel;
smoothbore firearms;
cold blade;
propellant;
pneumatic with muzzle energy over 3 joules;
3) Hunting weapons:
firearms with a rifled barrel;
smoothbore firearms, including those with a rifled length of no more than 140 mm;
combined firearms (rifled and smoothbore), including those with interchangeable and plug-in rifled barrels;
pneumatic with a muzzle energy of no more than 25 joules;
cold blade;
4) Signal weapons;
5) naked weapons.
The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 30, 1998 No. 339.
This Law regulates legal relations arising from the turnover of civilian, service, military handguns and cold steel weapons in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and is aimed at protecting the life and health of citizens, property, ensuring public safety, protecting environmental facilities, resources, and developing international cooperation in combating crime and illegal proliferation of weapons.
