1. Railway communications are divided into the following types::

1) transportation of passengers, baggage, baggage and mail;

2) cargo transportation.

2. Transportation of passengers, baggage, baggage, and mail is divided into:

1) international - transportation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries or transit through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

2) intra-republican - transportation between departure and destination stations located on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

3. According to the administrative-territorial basis, intra-republican transportation of passengers and baggage is divided into:

1) interregional - transportation carried out between departure and destination stations located in different regions, or connecting settlements with cities of national significance, the capital;

2) inter-district (intercity intra-regional) - transportation between departure and destination stations located within the same region;

3) suburban – transportation on routes connecting a city with a populated area within the approved boundaries of suburban areas in the relevant territories.

4. Cargo transportation is divided into:

1) international – transportation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries or transit of cargo;

2) intra-republican - transportation between railway stations of departure and destination located on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 8, 2001 No. 266.

This Law regulates public relations between carriers, participants in the transportation process, government agencies, passengers, senders, recipients, shippers, consignees, and other individuals and legal entities when transporting passengers, baggage, cargo, baggage, and mail by rail.
