Article 6. Sessions of the Parliament of the Republic of the Constitutional Law On the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Status of its Deputies

     1. The session of the Parliament takes the form of joint and separate sessions of its Chambers.

     2. The first session of Parliament is convened by the President of the Republic no later than thirty days from the date of publication of the election results.

     3. At the first session of Parliament, before the election of the Chairman of the Senate and the Chairman of the Mazhilis, the meetings of the Senate and the Mazhilis are presided over by the President of the Republic and the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, respectively.

     4. Regular parliamentary sessions are held once a year, starting on the first working day of September and ending on the last working day of June.

     Working days should be understood as days that are not weekends or holidays (national and state holidays).

     5. The session of the Parliament opens and closes at joint sessions of the Senate and the Mazhilis. As a rule, the session of Parliament is opened by the President of the Republic, and in case of his absence - by the Chairman of the Mazhilis.

     6. During the period between sessions of Parliament, the President of the Republic may, on his own initiative, on the proposal of the Chairmen of the Chambers or at least one third of the total number of deputies of Parliament, convene an extraordinary session of Parliament. Only the issues that served as the basis for its convocation can be considered at it.

     This Constitutional Law, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, defines the organization and activities of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the legal status of its deputies.
