Intelligence activities within the limits of their powers are carried out:

1) a foreign intelligence agency:

in political, financial, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian, military-political, environmental and other areas affecting the national interests of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

in the field of encrypted, classified, coded and other types of special communications using encryption and radio equipment and methods on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and abroad;

in the field of ensuring the security of foreign institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and their personnel;

in the field of countering intelligence and other activities aimed at forcibly changing the constitutional order and harming the security of the Republic of Kazakhstan by special services and organizations of foreign states, criminal communities (criminal organizations) and individuals;

in the field of countering extremism and terrorist activities, as well as in the field of border policy and operational security of the State Border of the Republic of Kazakhstan, territorial waters and the continental shelf of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

2) excluded by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 27, 2019 No. 291-VI (effective ten calendar days after the date of its first official publication);

3) military intelligence agencies of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

in the military, military-political, military-economic and military-technical spheres, in the areas of countering terrorist and extremist organizations, encrypted, classified and other types of special communications using electronic means and methods, and in other areas affecting the interests of the military component of the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This Law defines the status, competence and organization of activities of foreign intelligence entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and members of the intelligence community of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
