Bodies carrying out counterintelligence activities, within the limits of their assigned tasks, are obliged to:

1) identify signs and facts of intelligence and subversive activities and take measures to eliminate the causes and conditions conducive to the conduct of intelligence and subversive activities;

2) inform the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and government agencies about threats to the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

3) take the necessary measures to protect the foundations of the constitutional order, state sovereignty, territorial integrity, economic, scientific, technical and defense potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

4) to ensure the safety of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other protected persons;

5) take measures to protect information constituting state secrets of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

6) provide counterintelligence support to government agencies, state-owned legal entities, quasi-public sector entities, strategic and other facilities of the Republic of Kazakhstan of significant state importance;

7) take measures to ensure secrecy in the conduct of counterintelligence activities, as well as the security of forces, media and information of the body engaged in counterintelligence activities;

8) fulfill requests from special services, security agencies, law enforcement agencies of foreign states, international and other organizations on the basis of international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

9) perform other duties stipulated by the laws and acts of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 28, 2016 No. 35-VI SAM.

This Law defines the legal basis of counterintelligence activities and the system of guarantees of legality of their implementation.
