About the National Nuclear Center and the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan

DECREE of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 15, 1992 No. 779

In connection with the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and in order to develop and effectively use the scientific, technical and industrial potential for atomic science and technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan

I DECREE:      

1. To establish the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of the complex of the former Semipalatinsk nuclear Test site and relevant scientific organizations and facilities located on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to carry out work on radiation safety and ecology, research on the problems of disposal and burial of radioactive waste, developments in the field of nuclear technology and nuclear energy.      

2. To establish the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the implementation of the state policy in the field of atomic energy use.      

3. To establish that the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within the limits of its functions, makes decisions that are binding on all ministries, departments, enterprises, organizations and other subjects of economic relations of the republic, regardless of their departmental subordination and forms of ownership.      

4. To the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

to implement organizational measures for the establishment of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

to ensure the approval of the regulations on the National Nuclear Center and the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
