      PRESS RELEASE  

      To ratify the Additional Protocol to the Protocol to the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the Delimitation of the Bottom of the Northern Part of the Caspian Sea for the Purpose of Exercising Sovereign Rights to Subsurface Use dated July 6, 1998, signed in Chelyabinsk on November 9, 2017.

ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL to the Protocol to the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the Delimitation of the Bottom of the Northern Part of the Caspian Sea for the Purpose of Exercising Sovereign Rights to Subsurface Use dated July 6, 1998.      

     (Entered into force on January 21, 2019, Bulletin of International Treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan 2019, No. 2, Article 17)      

      The Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, hereinafter referred to as the Parties,  

      Guided by the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the Delimitation of the Bottom of the northern Part of the Caspian Sea for the purpose of exercising sovereign rights to subsurface Use dated July 6, 1998, the Protocol thereto dated May 13, 2002, Protocols on amendments to the said Protocol dated January 25, 2006 and October 15, 2015.,  

      based on mutual interest in the joint development of the hydrocarbon resources of the Kurmangazy (Kulalinskaya) structure,    

      have agreed on the following:  

Article 1  

      The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan or its competent authority and enterprise provided for in paragraph 4 of Article 3 of the Protocol to the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation on the Delimitation of the Bottom of the Northern Part of the Caspian Sea for the Purpose of Exercising Sovereign Rights to Subsurface Use dated July 6, 1998, signed on May 13, 2002. and amended by the Protocol of January 25, 2006, to the said Protocol (hereinafter referred to as the Protocol), conclude an additional agreement to the production sharing agreement of July 6, 2005, provided for in paragraph 6 of Article 3 of the said Protocol, providing:  

      increase in the contract area stipulated by the production sharing agreement of July 6, 2005.;  

      providing the company with an additional exploration period of six years throughout the contract area with the possibility of a subsequent extension of four years;  

      setting the date of signing the supplementary agreement to the production sharing agreement dated July 6, 2005 as the date of the beginning of the additional exploration period.  

Article 2  

      This Additional Protocol shall enter into force on the date of receipt, through diplomatic channels, of the last of the written notifications on the completion by the Parties of the internal procedures necessary for its entry into force.  

      Done in Chelyabinsk on November 9, 2017, in two copies, each in the Kazakh and Russian languages, both texts being equally authentic.
