Article 19. Requirements in the field of soil protection from depletion, desiccation and compaction The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan On Soil Protection
1. Measures for soil protection from depletion, desiccation, and compaction shall include:
1) ensuring an effective irrigation system, taking into account the natural zoning of the territory and types of agricultural crops, to prevent desiccation and maintain an optimal level of soil moisture;
2) using methods of snow retention, soil tillage techniques, and mulching to replenish moisture reserves in the soil, reduce moisture evaporation from the soil, prevent soil erosion, and preserve the health and fertile layer of soil;
3) using agricultural machinery that has a minimally negative impact on soil, taking into account its characteristics and moisture level;
4) adherence to a scientifically grounded fertiliser application system;
5) development and introduction of measures for the collection and conservation of flood and melt waters for the purpose of their use during dry periods;
6) implementation of field-protective afforestation.
2. The application of chemical substances that lead to soil disturbance and compaction in quantities exceeding the permissible norms for their application shall be prohibited.

This Law regulates public relations in the field of soil protection and defines their legal, economic and organizational bases.
