Article 20. Emergency preparedness and response of the Radioactive Waste Management Act

     1. Individuals and legal entities engaged in activities in the field of radioactive waste management are required to develop, approve and keep up-to-date emergency preparedness and response plans in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of atomic energy use and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on civil protection.

     Emergency preparedness and response plans should take into account the category of radiation hazard of a radioactive waste management facility, contain procedures for incidents and accidents, measures to eliminate their consequences and minimize radiation exposure to personnel, the public and the environment.

     2. Individuals and legal entities engaged in activities in the field of radioactive waste management are required to ensure the implementation of emergency preparedness and response measures for radioactive waste management.

     3. Individuals and legal entities engaged in activities in the field of radioactive waste management are required to conduct staff training, trainings and training sessions aimed at working out actions according to emergency preparedness and response plans, in accordance with the procedure determined by the authorized body.

     4. In the event of an accident, individuals and legal entities engaged in activities in the field of radioactive waste management are required to immediately take measures to localize it, notify the authorized body and civil protection authorities, and perform other actions in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
