Article 71. Nomination of candidates for deputies of the Senate of the Constitutional Law on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan

Article 71. Nomination of candidates for deputies of the Senate of the Constitutional Law on Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan

     1. The nomination of candidates for deputies of the Senate begins on the day following the election day and ends at eighteen o'clock local time one month before the election day.

     2. The nomination of candidates for deputies of the Senate is carried out:

     1) at sessions of regional (cities of republican significance and the capital), city, district maslikhats. Political parties and other public associations, through their representatives in maslikhats, propose candidates for deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the same time, one candidate may be nominated from several maslikhats.;

     2) in the order of self-nomination.

     3. A deputy of the maslikhat, as well as a citizen residing in the territory of the relevant region, city of republican significance or the capital of the Republic may be nominated as a candidate for deputy of the Senate.

     4. The decision to nominate a candidate for deputy of the Senate is made by a majority vote of the total number of deputies of the relevant maslikhat.:

     1) it is brought to the attention of the nominated candidate;

     2) together with the candidate's statement of consent to run, it is sent to the election commission of the region, the city of republican significance and the capital of the Republic, respectively.

     5. Self-nomination of candidates for deputies of the Senate is carried out by citizens by submitting an application to the relevant territorial election commission on their intention to run as a candidate for deputies of the Senate in this administrative-territorial unit.

     6. The regional, city (city of republican significance or the capital of the Republic) election commission shall, within three days, establish the candidate's compliance with the requirements imposed on him by the Constitution and this Constitutional Law and, on the basis of the documents on his nomination specified in subitems 2) of paragraphs 4, paragraph 5 of this article, issue signatures to him within three days from the date of completion of the verification sheets for collecting signatures of electors.

     7. If less than two candidates for deputies of the Senate have been registered as of the deadline for registration of candidates, the Central Election Commission, upon the submission of the relevant territorial election Commission, extends the deadline for nominating candidates by no more than twenty days.
