Article 8. Competence of localexecutive  bodies in the field of radioactive waste management of the Law on Radioactive Waste Management

     Local executive bodies within the competence established by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of radioactive waste management:

     1) carry out, with the involvement of state bodies and (or) their subordinate organizations, monitoring of closed burial sites in accordance with the rules for monitoring closed burial sites;

     2) participate in the implementation of measures to ensure radiation safety and environmental protection at radioactive waste management facilities;

     3) organize public discussions and informing the public about the placement, construction, operation and closure of radioactive waste management facilities;

     4) organize work on the management of historical radioactive waste, the elimination of radiation pollution, as well as ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of nuclear heritage sites;

     5) exercise, in the interests of local government, other powers assigned to local executive bodies by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
