Article 100. Medical Waste Management Code on the Health of the People and the Healthcare System of the Republic of Kazakhstan
1. Medical waste refers to one of the types of production and consumption waste generated during the provision of medical services and medical manipulations.
2. According to the degree of danger, medical waste is divided into 5 hazard classes:
1) Class A – non-hazardous medical waste, similar to solid household waste;
2) Class B – hazardous (epidemiologically) medical waste;
3) Class B – extremely (epidemiologically) hazardous medical waste;
4) Class G – toxicologically hazardous medical waste, similar in composition to industrial waste;
5) Class D – radioactive medical waste.
Medical waste of classes B – D is hazardous waste.
3. Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the collection, transportation, storage, neutralization, and use of medical waste are determined by sanitary rules approved by the state body in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population.
4. Waste owners, in accordance with the environmental legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, provide information to the authorized body in the field of environmental protection in the form of an annual report on medical waste management (hereinafter referred to as the report) for their entry into the State Cadastre of Production and Consumption Waste.
5. Information on medical waste is provided annually on electronic and (or) paper media as of January 1 to March 1 of the year following the reporting year.
6. Waste owners ensure the completeness, continuity and reliability of these reports.
7. The procedure for providing information on medical waste is determined by the state body in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population.
