Article 16. Transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste of the Law on the Use of Atomic Energy
1. Transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste is carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. Transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste includes all operations and conditions related to the manufacture and maintenance of transport packages, as well as preparation, loading, dispatch, transportation, including transit storage, unloading and acceptance at the final destination of goods, including those related to emergency situations.
3. The shipper, the carrier and the consignee are obliged to ensure compliance with the requirements of nuclear, radiation and nuclear physical safety, as well as the creation of necessary conditions for safe transportation in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
4. Transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste is carried out with a license for the relevant type of activity in the field of atomic energy use.
5. Transportation of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste is carried out in transport packaging packages, the design of which is approved by the authorized body with an indication of the code and type of packaging of nuclear materials, radioactive substances and radioactive waste allowed for transportation, conditions of transportation, registration number and date, and their validity period.

This Law defines the legal basis and principles for regulating public relations in the field of the use of atomic energy in order to protect human life and health, their property, and environmental protection, and is aimed at ensuring the regime of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, nuclear, radiation, and nuclear physical safety in the use of atomic energy.
