Article 27. Transportation of Radioactive Waste of the Law on Radioactive Waste Management
1. Transportation of radioactive waste can be carried out by individuals or legal entities who have appropriate licenses issued by the authorized body in the field of atomic energy use.
2. Transportation of radioactive waste is carried out in compliance with the requirements of regulatory legal acts of the authorized body, including requirements for packages (shipping containers), labeling, vehicles, routes, physical protection and radiation safety.
3. The conditions and mode of transportation of radioactive waste by air, rail, water or road transport are coordinated with the relevant services of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
4. When transporting radioactive waste, the shipper, carrier and recipient must ensure nuclear, radiation safety and physical protection, as well as take measures to prevent incidents and accidents, localize them and minimize their consequences.
5. In the event of a radiation accident as a result of a traffic accident during the transportation of radioactive waste, the responsibility for its elimination, as well as the protection of personnel, the public, the environment and material assets, lies with the shipper, unless otherwise provided by the transportation agreement.
