Article 6. Naming and indexing of highways.Calculation of distances on motor roads of the Law on Motor Roads

     1. All public roads of the Republic of Kazakhstan must have a name and an index. The name of the highway includes the names of the initial and final settlements, and, if necessary, intermediate settlements.  

     The highway index consists of letters of the Latin alphabet and a group of numbers.  

     2. The names and indexes of highways should be reflected in maps and atlases of highways, as well as on the highway by establishing special signs and markings.  

     The names and indexes of international highways passing through the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan are established by international agreements.  

     The names and indexes of public roads of regional significance are approved by the local executive bodies of the regions in coordination with the authorized state body for highways.

     The names and indexes of public roads of regional significance are approved by the local executive bodies of the districts in coordination with the local executive bodies of the regions.

     3. Distances on public roads of national, regional and district significance are calculated between the initial and final settlements. Kilometers of public roads are being counted.:  

     for highways leaving the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan - from the Parliament building of the Republic of Kazakhstan;  

      for highways exiting from other localities - from the buildings of local executive bodies, and in the case of their absence - from the borders of localities.  

      The length of public roads is assumed to be:  

      for highways connecting localities, the distance between the borders of the corresponding localities is;  

      for highways connecting other public roads and adjacent to them, the intersection of the axes of the interfacing highways.  

     The length of the streets of localities is taken to be the distance within the borders of the corresponding localities.

      This Law regulates the legal, organizational and economic foundations of the state management of highways in the Republic of Kazakhstan, their construction, operation and development in the interests of the state and users of highways.
