Article 19. Financing of radioactive waste management activities of the Law on Radioactive Waste Management

     1. Financing of radioactive waste management activities is carried out by the radioactive waste producers or their legal successors at their own expense.

     2. The financing of the activities of the national operator is carried out at the expense of:

     1) remuneration for services rendered, work performed on radioactive waste management;

     2) funds allocated by subsurface users as financing for research, development and (or) liquidation of consequences of subsurface use;

     3) budget funds in accordance with the budget legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

     4) other sources not prohibited by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

     3. Financing of radioactive waste management activities is carried out at the expense of budgetary funds in the following cases::

     1) the management of radioactive waste generated and (or) accumulated in organizations owned by the republic or municipalities;

     2) handling of ownerless spent closed radionuclide sources and (or) ownerless accumulated radioactive waste;

     3) the management of historical radioactive waste and objects of historical radiation pollution, which are in republican or communal ownership, and (or) the owner of which has not been identified;

     4) decommissioning of radioactive waste management facilities owned by the republic or municipalities;

     5) carrying out other activities related to radioactive waste management in cases stipulated by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
