- in strengthening the statehood and sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

- to ensure peace, consolidation of society and unity of the people of Kazakhstan;

- in government, industrial, scientific, socio-cultural and public activities;

- to strengthen cooperation between peoples, the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of national cultures, and friendly relations between states.

The Order of Barys consists of three degrees:

- "Barys" of the first degree;

- "Barys" II degree;

- "Barys" of the III degree.

The highest degree of the order is the First degree. Awards are made sequentially: III degree, II degree and I degree.

In exceptional cases, awards for special distinctions may be made without regard to sequence by decision of the Head of State.
