Article 36. Early termination of the powers of the Parliament of the Republic and the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Constitutional Law On the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Status of its Deputies
1. The President of the Republic, after consultations with the Chairmen of the Chambers of Parliament and the Prime Minister, may dissolve Parliament or the Mazhilis of Parliament.
2. The Parliament and the Mazhilis of Parliament may not be dissolved during a state of emergency or martial law, during the last six months of the President's term, or within one year after the previous dissolution.
The date of the beginning of the specified one-year period is the date of the enactment of the act of the President of the Republic on the dissolution of Parliament or the Mazhilis of Parliament. This period expires on the appropriate month and date of the following year. If the deadline falls on a month that does not have a corresponding date, the deadline expires on the last day of that month.
3. In the event of the dissolution of the Mazhilis, the functions of Parliament for the adoption of constitutional laws and laws are temporarily performed by the Senate until the election of a new composition of the Mazhilis.
