Article 18. Protection of labor, socio-economic rights and interests of trade union members of the Law on Trade Unions
1. Trade unions are independent of the employer and, through trade union bodies, represent their members in relations with the employer, protect their labor and social rights and interests by:
1) providing legal and advisory assistance, including when a trade union member enters into an employment contract with an employer;
2) a reasoned opinion on the validity of the termination of the employment contract with members of elected trade union bodies, the coordination of the working conditions of their members in accordance with the collective agreement;
3) applying to the court in defense of the rights and interests of its members protected by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
4) conclusion of a collective agreement or agreement with an employer on behalf of its members, as well as on behalf of employees who are not members of the trade union, who have authorized the trade union in writing;
5) participation in the composition of the conciliation commission for the consideration of individual labor disputes, the conciliation commission and labor arbitration in the consideration of collective labor disputes.
2. In order to protect the labor, socio-economic rights and interests of their members, trade unions may use all other means that do not contradict the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This Law regulates public relations resulting from the exercise by citizens of the constitutional right to freedom of association, the creation, operation, reorganization and liquidation of trade unions.
