Article 24. Execution of requests from citizens, government agencies and organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan to declassify information from the Law on State Secrets
1. Citizens, state bodies and organizations have the right to apply to state bodies and organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a request for declassification of information classified as state secrets of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. State bodies and organizations, including state archives, which have received such a request, are obliged to review it within one month and give a reasoned response on the merits of the request. If they are not competent to resolve the issue of declassification of the requested information, the request is sent to the state body with such authority or to the authorized state body for the protection of state secrets of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is notified to citizens, government agencies and organizations that submitted the request.
3. Execution of requests from citizens, government agencies and organizations is carried out in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 15, 1999 N 349-1.
This Law defines the legal framework and a unified system for the protection of state secrets in the interests of ensuring the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regulates public relations arising in connection with the classification of information as state secrets, their classification, disposal, protection and declassification.
