The following basic concepts are used in this Law:

1) the territorial defense zone is a part of the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, defined by the borders of the relevant regions, cities of republican significance, the capital;

2) territorial defense plan – a set of interrelated documents defining the procedure for carrying out measures for the preparation, deployment and functioning of territorial defense;

3) volunteer – a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan, enrolled on a voluntary basis in the formation of self-defense, except in cases established by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.;

4) territorial bodies of the territorial troops of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan – tactical military management bodies of regions, cities of republican significance, the capital and their units operating in peacetime as military units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

5) territorial troops of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as territorial troops) – military command bodies, military units and their subdivisions that are an integral part of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, formed within the border of an administrative–territorial unit and intended to carry out tasks of territorial defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

6) objects of territorial defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as objects of territorial defense) are objects of military and state significance, as well as other objects regardless of their forms of ownership;

7) territorial defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as territorial defense) is a set of military and national measures in the defense system carried out by the territorial defense forces during mobilization, martial law and during wartime;

8) self–defense formation - a formation formed and staffed by military authorities during martial law and during wartime from among volunteers to participate in the preparation and performance of tasks of territorial defense.

The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Territorial Defense dated June 30, 2025 No. 201-VIII SAM

This Law regulates public relations in the field of territorial defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
