Article 18. The Armed Forces and their purpose
1. The Armed Forces are designed to repel aggression, to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to protect and defend State and military facilities, to protect airspace, to combat illegal armed groups, and to perform tasks in accordance with international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. The armed Forces may be used on the basis of decisions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to eliminate emergencies of a social, natural and man-made nature, as well as to conduct anti-terrorist operations, strengthen the protection of the State border of the Republic of Kazakhstan and ensure a state of emergency, as well as when democratic institutions, independence and territorial integrity, political stability of the Republic of Kazakhstan, The security of its citizens is under serious and immediate threat and the normal functioning of the constitutional organs of the State is disrupted.
In the cases provided for in the first part of this paragraph, military, special, automotive equipment and other vehicles are used as military equipment in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The armed Forces may be involved in security measures to ensure the safety of protected persons and facilities in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On the State Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan".
3. The use of the Armed Forces to perform tasks arising from the international obligations of the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out on the terms and in accordance with the procedure stipulated in international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
4. A part of the Armed Forces may be part of the united (collective) troops (forces) or be under joint command in accordance with international treaties ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This Law regulates public relations in the field of organization of defense and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the functions and powers of state bodies in ensuring the country's defense capability, the rights and obligations of citizens and organizations in the field of defense.
