Article 10. Use of penal institutions, premises specially equipped for the detention of persons subjected to administrative detention, and guardhouses for the detention of suspects and accused persons of the Law on the Procedure and Conditions of Detention of Persons in Special Institutions, Special Premises providing Temporary Isolation from Society
1. Convicts serving sentences in institutions of the penal correction system, if they are suspected or accused of committing another crime, may be held in these institutions, but in isolation from other convicts serving sentences.
2. Suspects and those accused of committing criminal offenses related to violations of the State Border of the Republic of Kazakhstan may be held in premises specially equipped for holding persons subjected to administrative detention until they are transferred to temporary detention facilities.
3. Suspects and accused persons, in respect of whom detention has been applied as a preventive measure, if it is necessary to appoint an expert examination on the grounds provided for by law, as well as in the case of medical assistance provided to them, shall be placed in medical institutions in accordance with the procedure provided for in paragraph 2 of Article 23 of this Law.
4. Suspected and accused military personnel may be held in guardhouses in cases and in accordance with the procedure provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this Law and other regulatory legal acts.

This Law defines the legal basis for the activities of special institutions and special premises that legally provide temporary isolation from society, and also establishes the rights and obligations of the persons contained therein.
